Can I Solder This?

Sounds like you might be talking about the brass valve snap reducing set that allows microbore to be used in a 15mm rad valve. if it's leaking then that may need replaced.

Just been looking online and yes looks like I need to replace that. Gonna give it a shot this week. Thanks for the help.

It would look like this, the brass insert piece, in the compression end of the valve - the picture's the other way up of course

All good advice so far, but you are aware that by the looks of your picture you don't actually have a compression reducer insert fitted!

You have an 8mm to 15mm soldered reducer. This has been inserted into a standard 15mm olive fitting rad valve.

By design an olive fitting slightly crushes the pipe it slips over, in your case the 8 to 15 reducer soldered to the 8mm pipe.

So to fit a reducing compression olive like the one linked above, you need to chop out what you currently have and solder a new length of 8mm pipe up to the rad valve and then use a new 8 to 15 reducing olive.

Thanks again everyone. Yes, I will need to remove what's there and then redo it. Would like to learn so will give it a shot. Will update when I've hopefully fixed it.

Picture .... feck ... Ooops .. Missed that bit completely

Yup soldered reducer ... see if the nut needs tightened ... I'll get me coat ;)

All sorted. Used the thing in the link I posted. The reducer that was on there just slipped straight off so no wonder it was leaking. All cleaned up, fitted and refilled and all dry. Thankfully.

Cheers for the help.

Eh? So the soldered joint wasn't leaking but the reducer set in the TRV was??! Did this particular fitting go from 8mm to 10mm soldered and then 10mm to 15mm in compression?

I am confused

No, the 8mm to 15mm copper sleeve (I'm calling it a reducer, don't know the correct term) was leaking where it fitted over the 8mm pipe.
