Power problems for extractor fan

Hi,

The extractor fans in our flat have suddenly stopped working, and they were installed before we moved in so I don't know much about them. However, taking the cover off the unit next to the extraction unit there's three switches (?), but only two of their lights come on despite all looking like they're wired up. I can pull out the switches and swap them and it's always the unit on the right that doesn't light up, suggesting it not being the switch that's the problem. But they look plugged into a fairly simple connection board with all the cabling seeming to be secure.

Anyone got any ideas? Or even some help with the proper terminology of what I'm looking at could be helpful!

Is it just an extractor fan or is it an mvhr (balanced heat recovery system) or similar?
Is it a central unit? How many hoses/pipes entering? Is it connected to the drainage too? Have you ever changed the filters? Has it been maintained at all some when you moved in?

Hi,

It's a central extraction unit with three pipe inlets extracting air from three small rooms, turning on whenever the light is turned on in any one of the three.

It has a single outlet vent to the roof. Not maintained/filters unchanged since moving in last year, didn't see an obvious way of getting to any filters when taking cover off but will look again.

Hi, it may be the fan that's failed. I would assume the 3 relays are connected the light in each room, the one that is not lit, i would assume the light in that room is switched off ? Also check that fan isolator is switched on, it looks as if its off ? If any of the relay lights are lit you should get power at the fan.

Unless you're handy with a multi meter I am not sure I can help much more. If it was me I'd isolate and start checking the loop for the room switches. Oh and Chech for volts at the fan input!
I'm guessing the relays operate in parallel so shouldn't stop all working at the same time, and are just there to stop the other lights all being back fed.
If you can find the installation manual for the unit it might shed some light

Hi,

That's still useful, many thanks. The 3 relays do light up as the light in each room is turned on, so that's useful to know. Don't have a multimeter currently but sounds like my next step, along with Googling for the instruction manual for the unit

Does it matter which Pole he uses?
