Do these litle lights need a "starter"?

Anything wrong with something like this…?

LED driver transformers are needed instead of standard 240v to 12v transformers commonly used for halogen bulbs. Without an led driver transformer there is a possibility that the led lamp will either not work or flicker. If an led lamp does work with a normal transformer, the led light will have a significantly reduced life and can fail after only a few hours.

The 12w maximum rating for this LED driver must not be exceeded. Several LED bulbs can be run with this LED driver, for example you could run up to 4 x 3w LED bulbs. These LED drivers/transformers are suitable for all G4, MR11, MR16/GU5.3 LED bulbs and also most LED strip lights, just make sure the maximum wattage of the strip light does not exceed the 12w max output power of the LED driver.

These LED Drivers are genuine and fully approved with the CE safely mark. We have tried and tested these drivers for several years and they will enable you to achieve the full design life from your led lights, which should be between 30,000 and 50,000 hours. At 4 hours per day every day of the year, led lights could last over 34 years.

That is absolute b*****ks.

If an LED lamp is specified as being suitable for a 12V AC supply then it will work fine with a normal transformer. If it isn't then WOE give it a 12V AC supply?

I don't know where you found that info you decided to copy and paste, but I do know that you don't really know enough to be posting things which help.

I pasted the info from the advert for the LED drivers I'm thinking of buying. Perhaps that wasn't clear? I am the OP, asking for help, not offering it.

Sorry - the topic is a bit old, and I lost track. Not an excuse, just an explanation of my failure.

If your lights need 12V DC and between 500mW and 12W then that will be fine.

Except...

The language makes me think it is coming direct (or effectively) from China, therefore you cannot rely on it being either legal or safe.

Buy a supply from a proper UK entity.
