Hi all,

My living room currently has two lights that can be controlled by 2 switches, one at either end of the room. The lights cannot be controlled independently, they are either both on or both off.

I now have Philips hue lights installed and effectively just want them to be left always on. My aim was to replace the two existing switches with 2 blank plates, using a terminal box behind to effectively leave the lights always on. I was hoping this would be simple however the wiring behind one of the switches is causing me some confusion.

One of the switches is wired as below, the other just has a live, a black wire in L1 and a grey in L2. Is it possible to get this to work and if so which wires need to be connected?

The above is the same switch from 2 angles.
Com: 1 live
L1: 1 live, 1 grey
L2: 2 live, 1 black.

Thanks for any help you can offer and if you need any more info just let me know!

You need to connect together, in one connector block, the three browns in L1 and L2.
Leave the blues as they are.

Disconnect ALL the other wires - brown in Com, black and grey - from the two switches and make safe by puttting all three wires - these will be the brown black and grey from the same cable - in one connector block and position out of the way at both switches. They will not be live.

That worked perfectly, thank you for your help!

This thread is imperfect, it needs some pointless comments from the in house wafflers.

Make a note of what you have done and leave it behind the blank plate, so the next owner can put it back if he doesn't want hue lights.
