He would have just said he wasn't driving and the car had been stolen without his knowledge.
Another person and myself witnessed a van driver hit a parked car. We both left details on the parked car. The owner called us back and we filled out forms from his insurers.
A year later he just happened to call me with an update. As the other witness completed the witness form with an error it was dismissed. So it boiled down to my word Vs the van driver who was denying it.
The car owner just decided to end the claim.

He's a coward. He cannot admit he has done wrong and of course his first thought is: "How can I get away with this?"
