Hi,

We need to replace the washers on this type of monoblock, but the tap body is very tight and we cannot put any pressure on it without the whole body starting to spin.
Have tried penetrating fluid without success

Any suggestions how to grip the curved body to stop it spinning ?
There is 80mm behind the tap before the tiled splashback.

Getting to the underside of the tap really means removing the whole Franke Ascona sink unit which will likely chip the laminate top, so not a task we want to do !

Thanks

Put the spanner on the insert so that the handle is going to turn towards the spout, and with one hand grip both spout and spanner. Squeeze together and it should loosen the insert enough to wind it out

Hi,

Sorry, didn't make it clear, the spout is not fixed, its adjustable /removable, no obvious way of locking it off.

Pair of grips and a wet cloth to stop it getting scratched, vice grips ideally, grip round the body using the wall as a stop.

Hi All,

Manage to shape some 2ft lengths of wood to fit up against the tiles and the curves of the block body and that did the job. :)

It only move the block body a few degrees so happy its flexible pipes could handle that ok.

Went to turn the low pressure hot water tank gate valve back on , but the bugxxx would only move 1/4 turn ?
Gave its body a few rattles with a small hammer as I turned the wheel back and forth and thankfully it released ok, phew !
New valve put on shopping list !

thanks.

Gate valves are the work of the Devil!.

As the valve is on the low pressure hot water feed from the tank, would it be better to use a Lever Ball Valve or Full Bore Isolating Valve as they are they less prone to failure ?

Think as stop tap is not suitable as do not allow maximum flow.. ?
