why is loss of freedom of movement in eu seen as a big deal

I think immigration is a small small part of why hospitals are busier now than they ever were. People are living much longer which is one, lack of funding for the hosptials is another and lack of social care doesn't help either, blocking beds.

We are in desperate need of good NHS staff and what did our gov do last year? Cut the bursaries for new nurses, midwives and radiographers. More short-term planning when it comes to cutting costs which will bite us all in the backside in a few years time, especially when more immigrant NHS workers leave the UK.

There’s never one reason for something failing. If I were to single out one thing I’d blame management local and government. Get this right then all else will fall into place.

All this is true and very real. But how is uncontrolled open door immigration going to help this?

Some times you have to stop and clear your desk. So that the brain thinks straight again.

Even if you have to employ a cleaner to help clear your desk.

The point I was making (badly, granted) is that with Brexit and all that comes with it we will for sure lose some really good workers in the NHS and it's something that won't come as a surprise surely.
I have a problem with the government who, by cutting the bursaries for those who wish to train in those roles which will make matters worse in the short term and very much so in the long term when the staff who are left retire. If brexit means the government is closing the lid on FOM within the EU, why aren't they setting up a system to make the most of future talents here in the UK?
Everything about this government seems short-term, as well the way they are handling brexit and they really need to sort it out.

You explain yourself very well. But it’s not just this government. We have trained nurses to one of the best standards in the world then let them go off to ply their trade abroad. We then replace them with nurses who’s first language is not English and in some cases not as well trained as the ones they are replacing.

Language is a very important. Anyone who has worked in The USA Canada or Australia will telll you there is a language barrier even though we alll speak English

When reading about nurses having to use food banks, we know something isn't right.

It isn't clear in what way your fictitious 'leave' voter directly decided this. It wasn't on the voting slip. I remember because I read it a couple of times before placing my cross.
Was there a 'hard brexit' option or a 'soft brexit' option on that voting slip?
Was there anything on there relating to the customs union, or any other related issue? Of course not!

The question I recall was 'Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union'.

And the only voting option boxes were 'remain' and 'leave'.

Which means that Brexiteers either accepted that on leaving those rights would be removed ('leave means leave'), or they didn't realise the consequences of their vote and thus 'placed that cross' in ignorance.

Because the consequences to current/future generations were obvious to those who understood that voting 'leave' (and thus bringing about the removal of 'freedom of movement') would mean the removal of many rights/advantages/priviliges we currently hold that cover many aspects of our lives!

This what I’m saying. We need to get out house in order and look after number 1. At the moment we can even look after our selfs close the door until we have an order.

But the door being open isn't the problem it's the mad hatter in the house.

You can still get the house in order whilst in the EU. Your not making sense.

Why don't you ask Theresa why under 6 years of her leadership at the home office we still didn't have effective residency checks.

Here are some facts on hospital admission by age. Yep it's the older generation making up the bulk of admissions.

Well done to DM, Sun etc on their misinformation campaign.

I agree, we do need to sort out ourselves but we don't need to leave the EU in order to do this do we? I would say that we are a bit buggered to have a government in charge who can't get it's own house in order then negotiate and sort out something as monumentally important as brexit.

We did know they were going to get older and need care didn’t We?

Let’s get rid of the elderly.

Well the irony is that those who paid all their lives in taxes are feeling let down by cuts to social services and healthcare. Yet the irony being they over whelmingly voted out which will hurt them more.

Go look at nursing homes and the nationality of the staff.
