Newly plastered kitchen - mist coats ?

Kitchen has been newly plastered a month ago so now looking to decorate
Wife wants Farrow and Ball (we have tried some some match ups but they were poor hence staying with F&B) so checked and their website advises mist coats of primer/undercoat

Had a local decorator round to quote (been doing it for 20+ years) and he says he never uses mist coats/diluted coats as it prevents adhesion

F&B website contradicts this :

From F&B :
FOR PLASTERBOARD, SKIM PLASTER, SHEET ROCK AND LINED WALLS:

• When applying over a porous surface, mix Wall & Ceiling Primer & Undercoat with up to 20% water to make a diluted coat. This will seal the surface and promote adhesion.
• Dilution rate will depend on the porosity of the surface. A test patch is recommended to determine the correct dilution rate.

So who's advice do i go with....the manufacturer of the product or the trademan with experience ?

Any experiences of how to achieve a nice finish considering the outlay on F&B ?

The decorator is an idiot. You need a mist coat on raw plaster before anything else gets done. A thinned coat of white matt emulsion is all that is required prior to giving it full coats of your chosen paint. The suction on new plaster would draw the moisture out of un thinned paint and it would dry too quick. Ive been decorating 40 years.

Only needs to be 20/25% really. Don't use silk or satin. Has to be Matt, ideally a contract matt with no Vinyl in it.

thanks again and that was my plan all along (mist the whole room with flat white matt) before 2 full coats but as mentioned, the response i received confused me somewhat

As Robbie says, if full fat paint is put on bare plaster, too much water is sucked into the plaster and the paint effectively just sits on the plaster rather than bonding with it. When someone else comes along to roll new paint, the water in the new paint reactivates the old paint and often pulls the original paint off.

The same is true of wall papering. Years ago, my GF lined our newly plastered kitchen walls whilst I was on a stag weekend. She didn't apply a dilute coat of paste first. I was able to peel the paper off the wall with ease.

I have never, ever thinned the first coat of paint when working with lining paper.

Can you advise me on this final selection please....

As mentioned we are decorating the kitchen
Its only small (3' x 3') but well ventilated...window and extractor fan
There is only me and the wife so time usage of kitchen is low and we don't use chip friers etc
We do have a small dog so the wall areas could get the occasional scuff/knock
Our finish pref is always towards matt
Ceiling colour will be white, and on the walls we want Dulux "Soft truffle"

Based on this info, can you give me your professional view on what finish would be advisable to use please, whilst maintain compatibility between ceiling and wall finishes, whilst maintaining a level of durability protection to sustain the odd need to wipe the walls

We have a local Brewers and I am not precious over an extra £20 to get a really nice finish if one paint is better

I myself like matt finishes as the satin and silk always look to shiny. I ver recently been using Tikurrila Durable matt which is supposed to be 10,000 times scrubable. Ideal for pets and places that can get splashed. Dulux also do their own Clean Extreme, which is a similar type of paint.

Does it stay matt after being scrubbed?The Dulux Diamond Matt is no longer matt once you show it a webrax pad.

I have never tried their paints. Having just looked at their website there don't appear to be any suppliers anywhere near London.
