....when there are lots of cheaper alternatives:

to name but 4 I found within 5 minutes.

Are GoPros SOOO superior that everything else is just tat compared to them, or is it a case that the clones/Chinese have caught up and I'd be paying for a label if I went for a GoPro?

I'm looking for use out on the kayak, fishing, generally wet and salty conditions.

GoPro are better than the knock off ones
But some knock offs are quite good and value for money
Look at "techmoan" on YouTube as he does quite a few reviews

I bought my girlfriend a (genuine) knock off which is an SJ 400 and it isn't very capable- so much so that people are copying the SJ camera

I work in video/tv and have 4 GoPro and a small Chinese sports type unit

I do know that a camera branded as national geographic was terrible but was £25

Well I got two from Aldi for £9.99 each they were £29.99. The quality looks excellent waterproof case several mounts supplied.
I've got to try it yet but it appears to be good quality I'm not saying it's as good as a go pro but as a starter it looks good.

I'm looking for one and doubt I can afford a go pro so a cheap Chinese one will have to do - I just have to find the right one.

If my dogs image is not captured in the best resolution possible she will no doubt sulk so its gonna be a hard look lol

Why buy an iphone when some of the Chinese ones are almost as good? Why buy a Mulberry handbag when Primark sell handbags for peanuts? Its vanity, that's why.Look at me, look at me, look what I can afford (on my almost maxed out credit card), just got to post some selfies of me with it on instafaceache.

Why spend thousands on a Canon DSLR when you could buy a polaroid instant?

I take your point about being vein but it only goes so far. Almost as good but never will be as good, you said it yourself.

If you want a sharper image with a truer representation of colour with factory waterproofing then buy the go-pro.

If you don't mind video that's going to be at a slower fram rate at high resolution, noiser images with poor colour banace then a cheaper chinese one might be for you.

Well I dunno about sooper dooper high falutin cameras etc but to my eyes the Eken H9 was way superior to the Go Pro.

You and I have a very different idea to what is considered a superior image it seems but that wasn't it. The colour balance and exposure are terrible.

Dunno as I said I'm no pro but going on that Youtube vid I would ditch the go pro and stick to the other one. The Go Pro images look washed out and lack colour to my eyes.

I've got three different monitors for editing photos and video which give a wide perspective of colour, just so when I'm editing images I can try and account for different devices people might view on and I'd go with the go pro for better colour and image.

As said though, for kayaking the 10x cheaper one could be worth while given the risk of losing it in the drink.

I'd go for a genuine Go-Pro, but get a cheap version. GP themselves do a camera for £99 (the 'hero' I think it's called), which gives a good account of itself.

I did buy a cheap Chinese copy, and binned it as the image quality was so poor it wasn't worth using.

I use mine for kayaking also :)

Some of the lads regretted buying cheap skiing goggles the first time we ventured out on the slopes. They regretted it within seconds. The difference is incredible.
