I have a Vaillant TurboMax Plus 837E & it's leaking from the connection to the pump, I have attached photos. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Here are the images: https://imgur.com/a/VK6JvZy

It s leaking from the copper pipe connected to the pump.

Great image...do you mean the leak is on the auto air vent cap at the back of the pump housing?

The photos seems to suggest the leak is coming from the auto-bleed valve (the black tyre-valve-cap like thing at the top)? May be worth drying it all up and being accurate where the leak is from. The pump connects by a push-fit into two pipes, one near the top, one near the bottom. Both seal with the same size o'ring.

If its 100% leaking from the top - is it "behind" the pump or from the plastic? If its behind the pump then pump would need removing, cleaned up, and new o'ring and greese top n bottom. But where you look wet isn't where I'd expect water. It may be the plastic on the pump has gone(!?)

But please clean up and see if you can dry it all and then see where the water originates as the image doesn't match it leaking from a copper pipe? When my pump leaked the valve (and top) of the pump remained bone dry.

However, I'm no expert at all! So ignore me.

Jeez, does Michael J Fox do your photography? :)

If it's just leaking from the top of the auto air vent, you can get an new top with a float. Just need to drain down boiler, unscrew top of AAV, and screw on a new one. Then refill, bleed pump by loosening large chrome screw on the front until a trickle of water comes out the re-tighten, then away you go.

Fantastic boiler, one of the best combis ever made. Tough, reliable, simple and plenty of reasonably priced parts available. Don't let anyone convince you to change this boiler for a good while yet. Fit a magnetic filter to protect it from rust debris and service it regularly. There's still a few years left in that unless it's been really abused. I've got one myself.

That's good to know - I thought it was part of the pump, so good to know you can get it off. Every time I've filled the boiler, never got any air out of the front of the pump (same as pic) - its always water?

Do your reliability comments also hit the Turbomax 828? Mine is 16yo and I'm wondering when its due to be replaced!

Yes, definitely the 828. There was an earlier Turbomax with a black control panel, but yours is a Plus model, same as Op's and mine (824, 828, 837). Mine is 14 years old. It had a new diverter in the first 18 months, because the earlier ones had faults - Vaillant changed under warranty. Apart from that, I've just put in a new pump. That's it in 14 years. Works as good as new, and I can't think of anything on it that would break and render it beyond repair. Even main heat exchangers are just over £100 new and an easyish fit. Just keep it serviced occasionally and fit a magnetic filter to stop rust particles from getting into boiler. Dirty system water kills boilers. I hope to get the best part of another 10 years out of mine - hopefully! Vaillant boilers have gone downhill a bit since the Turbomax.

There are three main parts to the pump on a Plus. The motor/impeller at the front, the plastic body behind motor that the motor bolts onto, and the aav just screws onto the top of the body. You can either replace the top of the aav by unscrewing it, or unscrew the whole aav and screw in a whole new one. See links in my previous post for the 2 parts.

Hope that helps, and stick with the Turbo!

The Plus is 'Boiler No. 4 on here -

Cool.
Just fitted a new HW HE and a new diverter valve (thought may as well when its off!) - and that was c. £80 for both. Pump failed 2 years ago and that was an easy swap. Seem "solid" - but starting to get odd glitches which I'm not sure about (hence a few posts on here!)
I do have a mag filter, and combimate, but sense my old house has sh*t filled pipes, plumbing and rads lol
Thanks for info, stored for when needed :)

The failed plate HE and poss the diverter too could well point to dirty system. Keep the old HE, you can clean both sides of it with Spirits Of Salt. Fill it with this and leave for 15 mins, then flush out well. Try and get the hose on the stubs of the HE to use water pressure to force out everything. Obviously being careful as it's acid. Very cheap fix. Done it once on mine and they're as good as new after.

Like cars these days, it's often electrical glitches that are the most difficult to trace - especially if they're intermittent. Shouldn't be too much to worry with the Turbomax, especially for an engineer who is good at fault finding. Touch wood, haven't had these problems. Yet.

Good luck.
