Can’t find studs with magnets

No, Not at all.

I'm only going by your 3 pages of how to clear out a stopcock, it should take no longer than 30 minutes with a wet vac and stick to loosen the mud and suck out.

Don’t have one old bean. Mine also seems to be 60 feet down.

Thanks. Said earlier that tried those to no avail. Seems my Paramount wall has fewer studs and screws??

If the wall has studs in it, you can locate them with my Special Tool. You drill a hole in the wall and insert the Special Tool, fully extended from the transport configuration, and slightly curved, in a sideways direction until it meets a hard obstruction. you then mark the insertion distance on the Special Tool, withdraw it, and mark the position of the end of the Special Tool on the wall.

The Special Tool is obtainable by sending me £50 (incl P&P). Bulk discounts are available. An illustrated instruction manual costs an additional £12.50.

Yes, but does the special tool work in context of Paramount/Egg box walls??

Normally you can tell where the studs are by knocking on the wall.

Many thanks. Will have another go when I get back. I tried to look for more solid sound yesterday. It would be good to know how many studs, width and distance you get with egg box wall?

Cheers

Ok cheers. When you say “centres at 3ft”. Do you mean three feet distance between studs?

Does that meant 1900mm (76”) long stud?

No.

The studs (vertical) are all the height of the room, minus the bottom plate and the top plate (i.e. same sized wood as studs, attached to the ceiling and another one attached to the floor to mark out where the wall will be).

On '950mm centres', means that measuring from the middle of one stud, horizontally to the middle of the next stud, is 950mm.

Now here's the awkward part, unless the wall happens to measure an exact multiple of 950mm, then you don't don't whether they started measuring from the left, or started from the right. A doorway in that wall can further complicate things. (or sometimes actually help)

And finally, the very first stud and the last stud won't be 'on centre' because there's the adjacent wall in the way, so it's just butted up against the existing wall and the distance to the next stud, i.e. the middle of it, will be 20mm-ish less than you would expect.
