My heating system always seemed to be working OK until I replaced a radiator. I thought I had drained the system, but when I went into the loft to refill the header tank I found it was still full. I tried to bleed the rads, some bled some didn't. I tried to bleed the pump to see if I could get some air out but nothing comes out of the central screw - no air or water. Also, I have noticed that the pump always seems to be running and is very hot to the touch. I turned off both water and heating but the pump still runs. It always seems to be running even when the heating has been turned off for quite a while.I realise this may not be connected to the air lock problem.
I know I have an air lock but with all these other anomalies I am overwhelmed by it all. I was thinking of trying to put a hose on the drain on one of the valves and forcing water back into the system to push out any air. I was going to close one valve on each radiator first. Will that do it?
I don't want to mess anything up so I thoughgt I would get some advice on it first.
