Hi, I have a Vitodens 200 with a pressure problem. I made a thread a while ago regarding this but still have not got it fixed. One engineer quoted me nearly £500 :( so obviously I rang another two. One said just below £400 the other said £350. Obviously at this time of year even £350 is a lot with kids and xmas just around the corner.

I thought to myself I will just keep releasing the pressure until after xmas. After more reading though I see this is not a good idea. Every time I do I am losing the inhibitor and have noticed the water to be clear now. Obviously in the long run this will cost me more replacing the full system.

After leaving a comment on youtube asking for help someone has said the pressure expansion vessel might just need recharging. He also said to press it and if water comes out then the tank will need replacing. Excellent I thought, I will give it a go. Trouble is when I unscrew the cap (like a bike tyre cap) their is no pin in the hole (like what you would get on a bike tyre and press with finger to release air) Is this the correct part or is this something totally different? It is located on top of the boiler behind the flue.

Thank you.

yes there should be a pin in there, exactly like a bike or car tyre valve, but wrong information , just because water cosmes out does not mean that it needs replaced, it may just need pressurizing, saying that the expansion vessels on these are very poor quality

Thanks for the reply.

I have unscrewed the black cap but can not see or feel a pin. I even put a screw down to see if it was hiding. The screw went about an inch down but nothing. Just my luck.

are you sure that you are looking at the correct part ?

I do not know. I have been looking online and can not find much. I will take a good look tomorrow at it and let you know. The cover is already loose so I can safely take that off. I am not unscrewing anything though.

For your own safety I suggest you leave the boiler alone.

Viessmann spares are often an extortionate price...thank the installer for this overpriced German junk.

Without attending no one can give you an estimate for repairs.

Your previous posts indicate the boiler is continually over-pressurising and as mentioned before you appear to have either an additional filling loop (letting by) or a failed secondary heat exchanger...and these can be prohibitively expensive on this model.
Given you're struggling to find the expansion vessel you have little to gain by checking the vessel since you lack the knowledge to interpret the findings.
It may be worth checking if Viessmann offer a fixed price repair.

I am not going to touch anything gas wise. I just thought recharging the pressure vessel was worth a try. I always thought Viessmann was a good make?

Ohh no, it gets better. So you think it is something more serious?

Merely pulling off the combustion chamber cover to access the expansion vessel will compromise the safety if not reattached properly...and you have demonstrated you are not in any way competent to do so.

Viessmann are much over rated along with many German products. Each year at the trade shows they lie and promise the spares prices will be reviewed and lowered...it never happens. 20 years ago you could regard German products as being of quality...that is certainly not the case anymore...mediocre at best and scandalous when you consider the price. Do not listen to corrupt journalists that continue the lie.

The secondary plate issue was mentioned to you before...depending on the boiler variant this part alone could account for the bulk of the repair costs you have been given. Until you call someone in it's guess work as to the costs.

Viessmann are brilliant boilers and not junk like mentioned above

There should be a shraeder valve behind the black cap. You can buy one from Halfords for a relatively small amount and screw it in. You will need to re pressurise it whilst the system is drained or at zero pressure.

Not really, I am an installer, I spend about 250k a year with them at least. The least problematic boiler I have ever had dealings with. I have installed systems from 16kw to several MW with them. So I know what to look for in quality

By working on them. Installed a couple. I've done the 3 day commercial controls course. I have also had to get parts UPS'd from Allendorf because there was no UK stock for a system where both boiler PCBs were taken out. 4 year old system needed a £1600 repair because one boilrr took out both boards and we needed two cascading control plugs.

Shiessmann tech gave totally the wrong advice and part numbers.

Overpriced shyte.

100 series is a joke with the dipping, restrictive flow connection on the main HEX and a paddle flow switch. Getting the POS into service mode is unnecessarily fiddly and the case is made of mickey mouse materials.

Just because something is clever and expensive doesn't make it any good.
