Confused over water pressure numbers

Do you currently have a kitchen mixer tap ,and if so how does it perform ?
Yes, it is fine as long as there is no other non-pumped cold taps running. This tap, the garden and the garage are the only unpumped colds in the house.

So I expect the new tap to perform the same but I don't know which pressure type to get (and don't know what the current one is). As the LP ones I am looking at say Max 5 Bar then I am guessing they should be the ones to go for.

Are you saying that pumped water shouldn't be drunk? Both the downstairs and upstairs bathrooms here have the cold pumped.

Don't tell me you've been drinking tank water! You wouldn't be the first (or is that thirst!)

It's not a case of it being pumped... Its where it comes from! Teeth brushing is ok from a tank but I wouldn't be drinking it!

No, the tank is only used to fill the cylinder. I know because if I run hot I hear the tank filling up but it doesn't if I run cold.

You're confused somewhere... If your colds in the other bathrooms are pumped then they come from the CWT. Post pics of your pump and trace the cold back from it to where it comes from. Unless you have had complete idiots install your setup there is something major missing in your description.

Any low pressure tap will do. You should fit a double check valve on the cold supply before the tap ,and you MAY need a pressure reducing valve on the hot supply ,but that depends on the design of the mixer that you buy. Some are designed so the hot and cold do not mix internally ,but come together at the point of expulsion at the end of the spout. That type would negate the need for balanced pressures. However if the hot and cold mix within the tap ,then your hot pressure would overcome the cold pressure and would have to be balanced.

Just confirmed that the only time the tank in the loft fills is when I run hot water in the bath downstairs. If I run hot or cold taps anywhere in the house the pump comes on but the loft tank is not affected.

If I flush toilets the pump comes on but the tank is not affected. If I shower upstairs the pump comes on but the tank is not affected.

I can see from the cylinder that it does in fact fill from the water main (red cock bottom right of cylinder).

I can see the vent pipe on the top of the cylinder (it is cold).

I have been puzzled by this set up since we moved here in the summer!

See ,this is what happens when you drink cold water from a tank ,the ability to see straight and think clearly is severely affected:LOL::LOL::LOL:

No, it's the beer. The missus is away.....

Thanks to all and sorry this meandered off track. Due to your combined wisdom I now am clearer about the required tap.

Confused by the system here though!
