I’m re-tiling a downstairs cloakroom in my house and need to alter the waste to make boxing it in neater. This is what I’ve come across. The basin waste has a collar thing (not sure what its called) to widen it to 40mm and it is wedged into the soil stack with some electrical tape to make a snug fit.

What is the best way to fit my new waste pipe into the stack? Cheers.

By the look of it the basin waste is joined by various compression fittings which are often more convenient to fit and replace.

You could lose some of the “width” by replacing and using solvent weld fittings. Screwfix or any local plumbers merchants sell them but have a practice if you’ve not done it before as the solvent cures very rapidly.

Otherwise look to drop it below the floor if there’s room and space to maintain the fall.

If neither is practical to help achieve your solution live with the boxing in and try to make a feature of it somehow

Blup

Cheers i’ll Go down the solvent weld route. I guess I just use a rubber boss adaptor to join into the soil pipe?

That's all old push fit, once it's moved then it's prone to leaking as the seals degrade over time.

Yes, use solvent weld and then a reducer to up the 32 to 40mm prior to it entering the stack.

That's pushfit waste which is smaller than solvent weld pipe = the boss in the soilpipe takes solvent weld pipe, that's why the tape has been bodged on. 42mm solvent pipe should fit the boss

The existing boss should have a rubber ring seal for 40mm solvent pipe already fitted.
