Some people believe particular ideologies because they have been indoctrinated into that ideology from a young age. It's in their blood*, their psyche, and they will never be able to question their own beliefs. No amount of scientific evidence, counter-argument or proof that their ideology is mistaken will ever encourage them to re-think their beliefs.
Some other people are also indoctrinated from a young age, but as they grow up they benefit from education, they develop the intelligence, the wisdom and the foresight to realise how mistaken, counter-productive and fundamentally mistaken is that ideology. They reappraise their beliefs and come to understand and accept a more enlightened, scientifically proven ideology.
Some people have the fortune to not be indoctrinated in these erroneous ideologies in the first place.
And some people grow up suffering abuse and discrimination from the erroneous ideologies of others.
Education is key to encouraging people to reappraise their own beliefs. But with some people, no amount of education, no amount of scientific evidence will ever encourage them to question their own beliefs.
I hope readers will accept this as a straight down the middle, unbiased post, referring to all extremes of all views.
