No need for appropriation as that would be COMMUNISM!
Time for LVT - and more productive use of the land which will actually boost UK productivity - time for a less renty economy. But too many on here want a renty economy even if they don't benefit from it.

I live on a main road, populated mainly by terrace houses.
There is very little on street parking, I see many who park facing oncoming traffic. They simply don't give a to$$.
I have to drive up the road and onto a side street up a hill, we often have to park on the pavement (leaving ample room for prams etc. to get past) otherwise when those that later come and park on the other side of the road - the gritters cannot get past.

In the UK we would need someone to give out tickets for that, unfortunately due to way too many government cuts those people no longer exist round here.
The same applies to red light jumpers, I wait a few seconds before setting off now due to the risk of getting sideswiped.

Lights have a built in delay, isn't your extra delay encouraging the red light jumpers to take even more risks?
Employing someone to book the pavement parkers, those who park facing the wrong way and the red light jumpers could all be self financing, the fines pay their wages, it just needs the will to do it.
Is parking on the wrong side still illegal? I thought it used to be but no longer was since you don't have to have parking lights on.

Efl yes it does still matter, the idiot that lives next to me often parks facing the wrong way, even at the end of a row - just where the start of a parking area is, forcing cars to pull out more,
There have been several instances of drivers not noticing the parked cars and smashing into them in past years, made even worse at night as (AFAIK) you do not have reflectors on the front of your car only the rear.
Said idiot also parks his motorbike there and covers it in a black cover, I'm waiting for the day when that gets ploughed into!

Of course it matters - your rear has reflectors facing any oncoming traffic on the left. The reflectors are there so parked vehicles can be seen in the dark and avoided.
Lights are no longer needed, providing you are parked within a certain distance of a street light, in a 30mph or less area - from memory.
I was taught on a police driving course, to move forward as soon as possible after the lights change to green, but as the first vehicle in the queue to always look left and right for any vehicles which might have ignored or failed to notice the red light. You also have to be aware that once a vehicle has crossed the line on a green, that they have priority over you, even if the lights have changed to red.
So, never assume a green light means completely safe to proceed, it means proceed with care.

Yes, that must be the fault of the parked car.
Well, there generally are big shiny chrome bits at the front.
Anyway that's irrelevant. Anyone who drives into a parked car is obviously not looking.
