I'm sure (most of us) accept that the occasional "emergency" will necessitate the school looking after little Chantel until a responsible other takes over.
But , surely the same does not apply to a couple of parents who choose to work past five every evening, then commute. And won't be at the school till close on seven pm any evening?

Ergo, while the school has a dirty of care, it is not a childminding service.

Thats very true, but didnt this argument start because little Chantel might be booted out of school Friday lunchtime?

Likely for example - from next term the school will close at Friday lunchtime.

One particularly ignorant poster on here tried to make out that schools were just for teaching children and were not there to look after the children i.e. child mind. He is so very wrong. There is a care network in all schools dealing with all kinds of horrific incidents with children.

I agree, but they're also not there to watch your kids until you deign it time to fetch them again (at least not with any degree of regularity, they aren't).

I never said they were. However, there are contingencies for late parents - whatever their reason for being late.

UK law. A child who is enrolled at a school must attend. That child is under the care of the teachers the whole time they are on the premises during school hours and not just during lessons.. They are effectively child minders boyo.

Lol. Who mentioned after school hours? Not me. Do you know what happens long before the child is referred to SS?

As long as the child is on the school premises (or sometimes not as long as the child is wearing the uniform) then that child is responsible and under the care of the school during school hours. Including the lunch break.

Some schools provide before and after school clubs for an hour giving parents flexibility to pick up and drop their kids off.

I dont know how this has become an argument into whether schools are childminders other than resident RWR making arguments into deflecting the issue of underfunding.
