Kids these days think it's fun to go chasing after imaginary illusions with a mobile phone

For kids today death is an imaginary illusion..... until a situation arises where death becomes a personal reality.

AIUI this is a ploy driven by their powerful car manufacturing lobby.

Their equivalent of an MoT test is deliberately set so that an older car is pretty certain to fail, and professional repair or rebuild is uneconomic compared to the price of a new car.

Similar with making routine maintenance tasks almost impossible.
My mate is a Renault dealer mechanic, and tells me about the frequent visitors to their workshops, getting a price for a headlamp bulb replacement.
When quoted something approaching fifty quid, they usually refuse the offer, only to return with their Halfords bulb, which they all to have fitted.

It makes a mockery of carrying spare bulbs (especially if being mandatory so to do) when it is often beyond the capabilities of the driver to actually fit one at their own convenience, let alone at the roadside, in the dark....

Exactly, I grew up in the era of westerns, then gangsters where lots of killing went on.
Bernard can't be far behind. Perhaps he didn't have a telly.

I never once thought of dying or getting a gun myself even though we had toy ones.

I think it was fifth gear that showed just how difficult it was to change a headlamp bulb on a renault megane or clio. It took more than an hour because you hd to remove the wheel, wheelarch covers to access the headlamp.

And yet they still get five star ncap ratings, which clearly must be ballcocks.

Probably done to try and ring a few quid out of the owner, above and beyond the initial purchase.

NCAP is a safety rating system, so skill or tools needed to change a bulb are irrelevant.
