removing WC pan

when removing the pan is the only water to drain out, from the cistern and what can be seen at the bottom of the pan, nothing further round where it connects to the soil pipe? just checking

That's correct, turn off and empty the cistern, then dry out the wc bowl and you have nothing else to worry about (water wise).
