Facial Recognition

Even phones have that facial recognition now, to unlock them.

Pros are that criminals can be spotted, tracked and alarms quickly triggered.

Cons are that it can be misused to track innocent people too and its is not 100%.

The Met has 'Super Recognisers', police with a special ability to quickly recognise criminals faces in a crowd.

I would be absolutely hopeless at that, I struggle to recognise peoples faces when they are out of their normal environment. I particularly struggle with females - Working in Italy, I once made a date with an Italian girl I had seen daily for weeks and arranged to meet her in the local town centre. In the town centre I marched straight past her, failing to recognise her all made up for the night out - lucky she spotted me.

Shopping with SWMBO I have to make a careful note of what she is wearing, so I can re-find her.

Also it's crap right now. Misidentification and mistakes abound. That means that it's less useful, more likely to waste time and more likely to falsely accuse you.

If it works it's almost as useful/scary a police/gov surveillance/suppression tool as social media.

Then why should I worry about a visit from the rozzers if I'm innocent?
The police are actually one of the lesser risks.

Have you heard about blacklisting on jobs? That is exactly what facial recognition will be used for by private companies.

If your employer wants rid of you and they are unethical they'll be able to troll your database and see that you were late in four days in the last month. Did some work on the side without approval and broke some safety rules on X Y and Z. Therefore fired.

That has always been possible but facial recognition means it doesn't take days or weeks, it takes a SQL query.
