Remove Dulux Tough and Durable from uPVC windows

Hello,

We’ve had a decorator paint all our first floor white with a Dulux Tough and Durable (washable) paint

He said there was not need for masking tape around the windows, as upon removal, it would have taken the paint off the wall as well

Now, he obviously didn’t care and now we have to scrape the paint off the window (just the frame, not the glass)

I’ve tried using a cloth and hot water, then nail polish remover, but the only thing that seems to work is using a plastic silicon scraper tool, but it still took me a long time to clean one small part of the frame and I’m afraid of leaving marks

Is there a better way?

I nominally use a very, very sharp chisel to remove old emulsion from uPVC but if there is the risk of scratching the uPVC, I use off cuts of timber, cutting a new sharp/clean edge as required.

How much paint residue are you looking at? Mixing up a tiny amount of wallpaper paste can help to soften the emulsion but you need to be careful that you don't get it on the emulsion that you don't want to remove.

Unfortunately, once you scrape the erroneous paint off, you are likely to be left with a very slightly jagged finish where the plaster meets the uPVC.

I respectfully suggest that you find another decorator in future.

You mean wallpaper adhesive?

I have bought this https://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-window-scraper-3/56292#product_additional_details_container and it seems to do its job...

How should the decorator have done it? Would masking tape have been sufficient?

Yup normal powdered wallpaper adhesive. It dries much slower than plain old water and will hopefully have a better chance of softening the paint.

Masking tape shouldn't have been needed. A decent decorator should be able to cut in without using tape.
