Sink noise when dishwasher drains

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can shed some light on a problem. I have a newly installed kitchen, including a double sink. The dishwasher (which is brand new) is next to the sink and drains into a spigot just above the Ptrap. The ptrap has a vent as well.

When the dishwasher drains there is a gurgling / noise sound coming from the sink. The dishwasher runs almost silently.

the drains are clear, no blockages.

I have disconnected the drainage hose from the spigot and let the dishwasher drain into a bucket and its silent so i know its not an issue with the dishwasher. So it must be the pipework under the double sink but i have no idea what to do here. Do i need larger pipe?

You'll just have to live with it ..... The DW is feeding through the spigot which is above the trap but just below the sink waste hole .... it's just the sound of the pumped waste water running into the trap, there's noting you can do about it. The sink tends to amplify it too given it's shape.

Only alternative would be to close the kitchen door or fit an appliance stand pipe into the run and feed the DW drain into that.

the waste pipe goes into a hole in the wall. What is on the other side of the wall?

If there is, for example, a gulley, you could add another pipe going through the wall (preferably lower down).

I have a preference for the stand pipe as mentioned by Madrab. This would also prevent dirty water from the sink running down into the dishwasher.

Maybe an additional trap? Remove any air which allows sound to carry.

That's a right old bodge job under the sink.

Live with the noise.
Check the manuals but the cold fill valve assembly (containing the shutoff valve) should often be vertical.
The drain hose should be tied up as high as possible under the sink in a loop to prevent the sink from draining into the dishwasher.
Stick a stainless steel jubilee clip on the hose.
Approved WRAS hoses...doubtful

Lol. I said I was no plumber !

so I have reverted back to the original trap as the anti vac made no difference and have raised the dishwasher waste pipe as high as possible. I have also changed the trap so that it is much higher up and closer to the dishwasher spigot.

the outside is just a pipe work flowing into a brown pipe / drain in the ground. The outside is fine and is signed off etc as this one done by the builders. The sink and under sink pipes are all done by me.....

cant see anywhere in the manual about the water feed having to be vertical. Will have another read later. Would that make any difference?

Quietest option would be into a standpipe directly with some kind of air admittance valve on the top to provide the air gap. Even open standpipes can be gurgly but at least there's not a sink megaphone attached as mentioned above.
