I've had some walls skimmed recently and I'm ready to apply the mist coat.
Do I need to wash the walls down prior to painting them.?
I've only seen one guy anywhere suggest that but it's preying on my mind.
Maybe the other hundred posters of advice were forgetful and omitted that piece of information?

TIA

I have never pre-washed a newly plastered wall.

After sanding them though, I do vacuum them off to remove surface dust.

If I am touching in a small area of plaster/filler and I cannot be bothered to dilute the paint I spray the area with water first to reduce the risk of the suction. Alternatively, I use full fat acrylic primer.

Cheers opps. Full fat acrylic? I've read that's a no-no. I bet you walk under ladders as well? @

Some people refer to a mist coat as a wash or wash coat, could that be what your guy is referring to?

Vacuum or wipe with damp cloth to remove loose dust.

I believe pros check over new plastered walls to check for imperfections and will sand any rough patches as needed.
I might be wrong though.....

The acrylic primer is very similar to the dedicated plaster sealers.

Walking under ladders is only risky if someone is working on the ladder.

It was just a post I had read elsewhere. Some guy said he washed the walls down with soapy water. Thought I might be missing something.

I think I got "acrylic" mixed up with "vinyl". It's an age thing.

Cheers for the replies lads.

I suspect that he washed the walls with soapy water to remove any residues of wall paper paste after stripping wallpaper.
