Hi all

Coincidently our Ideal Classic NF30 (around 25 years old!!) packed up the night before a service. The fan had seized and after the heating engineer applied a generous amount of WD40 it was going again.

A replacement fan assembly I can get for £250 + whatever the installer would charge to install. To me this seems like a lot of money to put into such an old boiler?

is it worth just leaving it and seeing how long I can get by with just lubing the fan? I understand the WD40 may not last but a fan lube night? I have also ready stories of people replacing the bearings in the fan so that’s an option too, doubt it’s anything that would interest an engineer though?

thanks for any help and guidance

I wouldn't spend that amount of money to keep a 25 year old boiler in use. Better to put it towards a new boiler.

I always lube fan bearings with old engine oil, new bearings is an option if you have a supplier near to you.

Brilliant stuff this , sorts out seized fans 8/10 times I also add some in on every service (older type fans )

WD 40 will free a fan but will not keep it lubed the fan bearings needs to be greased properly, here is a link for a new fan assembly a lot cheaper than you have been quoted.

Is that one really legit though? I read there’s a a lot of Chinese ones?

the £200 quote is a genuine part, had a look on PartsArena.

Thanks!

is this something I’d have to get somebody in to do?

could that give the fan a few more months of life?
You would have to get an rgi in as the combustion side will have to be open, then again you have gone in there any way lol

parts arena are a complete rip off, do you really think anyone would go to the bother of producing and shipping a fan assy for your boiler from China , when there are very few models of your boiler still in service ?

I will probably buy it then. Only thing is it says combi but mine is heat only?

thanks for your help

They say combi as you get the spigot also . Not as in combi boiler
Alright thanks.
Quite surprised at the price difference!!

would I need to order anything else for the engineer to fit this?

Is CET still going? They refurbished (and upgraded) the fan from my old Halstead boiler a few years ago, I think it was £45 when I took it to their place but they did exchanges by post.
