A general question, Ive recently exchanged on a bungalow that was built in 2002. Is it safe to assume given its age that the foundations will be able to support a full upper story, looking to take the roof off and adding a full upper story on the existing structure

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. This is just primary fact finding before I engage architects etc

Foundations are not deeper if a building is one, two or three storeys.

Thanks Woody would it be safe to assume that the foundations would be sufficient to take an extra story in that case?

Yes.

In any case, even if plans exist, building control trend to require a trial pit to be dug to allow a visual inspection of foundation type and depth.
