Hi

We have a septic tank and the waste is not flowing properly and I've dug down to expose the waste pipe and found there is no fall to speak of. The waste pipe runs between a chamber and the tank and is almost level, in some areas even slighty uphill according to my spirit level. I've only recently moved to this house and only finding these things out now.

I am not keen on digging the chamber out I guess I need to try and find some depth at the septic tank end and reset the whole lot, I could probably get additional 10-20mm over 8m run. i'm answering my own question here, unless I invest in a pump!

I'm almost thinking this means a new septic tank but not an option financially at the moment, I think the flow is good to the chamber just not between the chamber and the brick manhole of the tank.

Note sure this is even a question, but would be good to hear if there are any ideas out there.

Check the fall from the house to the chamber- if there's enough spare (is it plastic pipe or clay, by the way) then digging out the chamber and both pipe runs is going to be hard work but not expensive if you diy the digging

Hi, it doesn't block up, but I can see the standing water in the chamber but the chamber at the head of the septic tank is dry, I have rodded but its not blocked.

I am thinking of digging out the other pipe run towards the house so I can lift the chamber up.

If it was installed with fall in the first place it looks as if the intermediate chamber has sunk.
Fibreglass tanks can rise in wet ground when emptied but wouldnt explain why nearest brick chamber was dry . If you get a water level or lazer and take the level in the bottom of all the inspection chambers it will give you an idea if what you can do
Btw I know if a system where a chamber had sunk half the depth if the pipe and was used for tears before it eventually sheared off where it went through the blockwork side .

Its an old brick built septic tank, doesn't out flow to a watercourse/ditch so meets the regs.
Theres 3 pipes going to this chamber but will have a look anyway, its a plastic chamber so probably not that old.
