Hi all

I built a new shed the other week, 6x8 with an apex roof. I used the supplied felt and clout nails and followed instructions to a T. Even used a ruler to ensure all the nails are exactly 150mm apart etc. When I put the felt on it was perfectly flat on the roof, no bubbles, no ripples. But after the first bit of rain we've had I've now got a ripple running down the middle. How does this even happen when it's all nailed down!?

I've read the felt that comes with sheds is terrible anyway so I might redo it. Anyone recommend a good dark shed felt? Also i never used any adhesive, should you cover the wooden shed roof with felt Adhesive as well as using nails? Will this eliminate all ripples?

Thanks!

I replaced my shed roof last week. I used a higher quality felt (@£34 for a 8x1m roll) and a felt adhesive. No lifting so far. It was a hot day when I fitted it so the felt was very hot and soft. I wonder if it was cold and wasn’t glued down, would it expand and ripple when warm?

I installed it when it was around 25 degrees and sunny. What felt did you use?

Nice one thank you. So to clarify you did apply adhesive on the entire roof? As most guides I've seen just say to use adhesive on the overlaps. Although I think applying adhesive on the entire roof will 100% remove any ripples / creases in the felt. My worry about doing that though is if I ever need to refelt in the future it would be hard to remove if its glued down.

Yep. I glued the whole roof although my T&G roof was sound, I over boarded it with 9mm ply and stuck the felt down onto that.
