It does if you use a bracket the same as in the pic.. As Conny said the curtains will not close fully like that.

The runners have a built in overlap where curtains meet.

Out of interest, when was I drilling into wall it was hollow after an inch or two, does that mean it's plasterboard around the lintel?

I used the Fischer duo plugs and they were pretty strong
