We are tweaking our layout downstairs. The front door is currently in an odd position, you can see it on the plan. It goes in via the side of a porch and then directly into the lounge.

Then there is a side door entering a hallway with the stairs.

My partner wants to get rid of the front porch entrance and then move the front door to the far left of the house (marked with New door).

I'm a little concerned with this idea, as I think a front door that far over will make the house look out of sync and the door should be in the middle. It's just annoying the hallway/stairs was placed in an odd position.

Strange that it comes straight into the lounge. Seems more practical where you propose but looks natural where it is. I imagine it would be a major job to move the hall. Can you keep both? A photo of the front would help.

Thanks. Moving the stairs was too costly, it's a chalet bungalow and would mean a layout change upstairs.

We were thinking of adding a hall where the current fronrdoor is but then we eat into the lounge and end up with two halls.

As you say the door in the centre feels like the right place.

I will post a pic of the front.

Function over form for me, but that's a personal choice. I'd go for the front door on the left hand side.

Or... you don't change anything. Neither of the "front doors" are currently visible from the front. So it's not clear where they are.

You can use the "center" front door to accept parcels/mail/etc... and direct any guests/visitors to the "left" front door as that's a better, more logical place to let people come in.
