Repairing crack on replastered ceiling

I had all my first floor replastered last year and there is a crack on the ceiling I need to fix
The new plaster seemed to have separated from the old plaster so I started to remove it where it felt hollow
Underneath there is another thin layer of some unknown material (A in the picture) and further underneath there is a very smooth white surface (B), what am I looking at?

your looking at a bodge.
looks like some weight has been put on the board from above. or maybe kids jumping around etc.
a bit alarming that the original joint wasn’t taped, nor the cracked join running perpendicular to it. not that that would have saved it.
the overskim is pretty thick and not bonded/ keyed to the original correctly. the varying thicknesses indicate the ceiling is nowhere near flat.
it should have been overboarded and skimmed in the first place , which is also what i suggest you do now.
the smooth white is filler .

There isn't any joist above to screw the plasterboard to, so I don't think this was originally a joint to be taped, just a plasterboard that cracked

Overboard at this stage is out of the question, I was thinking about adding some timber on the back, screw the plasterboard to it, tape the crack and easifill over it

do I need to PVA first if I'm only using easifill?

There isn't any joist above to screw the plasterboard to, so I don't think this was originally a joint to be taped, just a plasterboard that cracked

it’s a ruff one. looks like polyripple, which is a good base to skim. id have boarded it though.
