Coronavirus testing.

John, out of interest. What European country has carried more tests per head than us?

So basically you could be tested for Covid, receive a positive result and then get run over by a bus and STILL be classed as a 'covid' death. On the other hand, my daughters boyfriends grandad died, aged 103 - he was in general poor health, heart and lungs. He was tested twice for Covid while in hospital, both times were negative yet he still had ‘Covid related illness' mentioned on his death certificate. Obviously, he would have been counted as a Covid death. I wonder how many times that situation was duplicated?

We need to know the numbers of who died due to Covid, not who died with or after having Covid.
Look at the ONS figures, that is based on primary cause

Govt daily figures now were changed to speed up reporting but has little effect on overall figures.

The demand for testing is 750,000 per day

Currently we are managing 80,000 tests a day.

But it's ok Tories and their mates are making plenty of money out of it
And apparently Rees a Mogg managed to get a test ok so everything is Rosy.

My advice to many don't get tested

We had a call. From. Some customer one of our blokes visited who had a positive test.

Than started ringing going every one up.

Fella said should he get tested

No u Kin should not was the response

Any one turning up around here offering a test will be told to go and do one :)

Surely, there should be 66,000,000 tests per day.

If - just saying - if there are actually twice as many cases than are known about, does that mean the R rate is half what they think it is?

Nope. The R value measures how fast it's growing, not how many cases there are. Like speed and acceleration.

Yes, growing from the supposed base.

If that base is twice as many as thought then the 'R'einfection rate is halved.

We need to know the numbers of who died due to Covid, not who died with or after having Covid.

All you need to know is........ How many more deaths were there, than normally expected, since Covid19 hit us.

That will give you a fairly accurate figure.

No. It doesn't.

If you know of 100 cases now, then 110 in whatever the period of time is, then your R is 1.1 (simplification).

If you know of 100 cases now, but there's really 200 and after your period of time there's 220, but you only know of 110, then it's still an R of 1.1.

The only way the R might be lower is if you thought that we only detected 50% last time but a higher % this time. Which is probably the opposite of what's happening as for a while you were able to get a test and now it's really hard to.

But the people who work these stats out are very good at this. The ONS are excellent mathematicians.

That doesn't make a difference, it's a statistical measure. R is like G it doesn't matter whether you're a ton of lead or a feather G is G and R is R

What’s Notch moaning about then?
People like him only concentrate on the negative.
Can you imagine how stretched the government is right now.
Dealing with the EU
Sorting out trade deals.
Dealing with the testing.
Sourcing testing chemicals & PPE.
Vaccine research
Trying to keep as many people in work as possible
Dealing with the cladding on buildings
Constantly monitoring virus outbreaks
Trying to convince idiots to wear masks
Assist the schools
Trying to keep the economy going

They just can’t win.
If they lockdown care homes, relatives are in the news moaning it’s not fair.
If they don’t lock them down the same relatives complain that they are not being protected,
When they quarantined other countries, people were moaning. If they didn’t, people moaned that they should have done it sooner.
This is an unprecedented year. Brexit & virus etc.
They are actually trying there best. It’s pointless moaning after an event & saying they should have done things differently. Hindsight is 20 20 vision.
I wish the haters would try looking at things from a different point of view.

People like him only concentrate on the negative.

A disease that kills thousands of citizens? What's negative about that?

Tell us how great you think it is.

We could do with cheering up.

"Coronavirus: Rise in UK cases a great concern, Van Tam says

  • 7 September 2020

The latest "big change" in coronavirus infections across the UK is of "great concern", England's deputy chief medical officer has warned.

Prof Jonathan Van Tam said people have "relaxed too much" over the summer and "we have got to start taking this very seriously again".

If not, the UK will have "a bumpy ride over the next few months", he warned.

He said that infections among younger people in EU countries had later filtered through to older age groups.

France and Spain are among a number of European countries that have seen a sharp rise in coronavirus cases in recent weeks, after lockdown restrictions were eased and testing for the disease was ramped up.

On Monday, Spain became the first country in western Europe to record 500,000 infections, after tallying more than 26,000 new infections over the weekend.

Prof Van Tam's comments came as more parts of the UK are to face tougher restrictions following a rise in the number of cases.

On Sunday UK authorities announced 2,988 new cases - the highest figure since 22 May, while a further 2,948 cases were reported in the 24 hours to 09:00 BST on Monday."

Who could have seen that coming, eh?

John, out of interest. What European country has carried more tests per head than us?

Also, the UK is adding together

"tests to see if people are infected"

and

"tests to see if people used to be infected" (the antibody test)

Which inflates UK's figures.
