Took my car to kwik fit, driving home and the car cut out and leaking fuel.

Hi
So what would you suspect at the moment that the issue may be ?

Thanks
Firstly i'm no diesel expert. What are you using to read the codes and what are they. You say that all injectors come up open circuit that tells me either ECU has a fault
or wiring from ECU to injectors has a problem. Is there any other codes that come up. Ideally Tech2 GM Midi or Opcom can be used for live data.

I used a basic code reader it says injectors open circuit 1 2 3 4
I erased the codes but the light with spanner stays on but goes out when engine is started.

The spanner light stays on now after codes are erased but goes out when engine is started so there must now be other codes on it.

If it is the ECU could Kwik fit have caused that ? He was standing next to the open bonnet with his grinder on with sparks going everywhere

We need some clarification here.
In your first post you said that the car was up on the ramp when he cut the rogue clamp away. However, you've just said that he was standing next to the open bonnet.
So - where was the clamp he cut away - in the engine bay? If he was using a grinder in there then some damage could have been done.....not by sparks but by snagging a cable with the grinding disc. If he was under the car then damage is almost impossible to the ECU or anything else.
Next - you mention a fuel smell and leakage. Diesel doesn't evaporate so there must be a trace somewhere - yet the leak off pipes are dry!
Most confused!
John :)

It's a 13 year old car things go wrong and they don't pick and choose when to go wrong.
I would check the wiring from injectors back to the ECU to see if anything has been rubbing and worn through.
Would also check ECU plug that it is dry and there is no corrosion.
ECU is behind front bumper on drivers side i believe you can access this by taking off wheel arch liner.

Yeah but it appears that the injectors are shutting at the same time which will build pressure for the leak off pipes.

The leak off pipe is more than able to cope with the flow, even if all injectors do snap suddenly shut. Besides, leak off pipes are just a low pressures push on fit, any pressure in them and they will pop off. Once popped off, it will be obvious and the leakage will not fix itself. There no pressure relief valve, other than that in the injectors, via the leak-back.

That may be normal behaviour, as in - you get the opportunity at switch on, to check all warning lights are working.

Yes but I mentioned he was under the bonnet doing pre MOT checks bit he still had the grinder on as he was stood near bonnet.

I get that things can go wrong at any time with a car, BUT , I have had this car for 4 years (70,000 miles ) it has never cut out and never leaked fuel. ( until 10 minutes after leaving kwik fit )

The guy was standing next to my car with the bonnet open with the grinder in his hand flames going everywhere. The clamp he was cutting off was the one near the exhaust flexi ( it is a clamped in flexi replacement ) he was under the bonnet doing some pre mot checks ( as stated in the post ) so not sure why he stood about with grinder in his hand near the bonnet.

is it possible he might have damaged the ecu while doing this ? thanks

It is not actually fuel leaking with engine running from the pipes or anywhere, It drives ok then I suddenly get a strong smell of fuel in the car, within 3 seconds or so of smelling the fuel it cuts out. So it must suddenly leak for a moment then it immediately cuts out . When I restart the car it will drive fine for over 100 miles then the cycle repeats, I'd suddenly smell strong fuel followed by the car immediately cutting out within seconds from the fuel smell. then it will start right back up no leaking fuel for another 100 miles or so (not smelling or seeing any visible leaks until it happens again ) , then repeat.

otherwise it sounds, starts and drives as normal.

is it possible the guy might have damaged the ecu ?

thanks

Well thanks not dangerous is it?????

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

YOU REALLY NEED TO TAKE THIS UP WITH KWIK FIT AS I SEE YOU ARE DISTRESSED BY IT !
THIS ISSUE ALMOST CERTAINLY STARTED BECAUSE OF KWIK FIT AND HAD YOU HAVE GONE IN WITH YOUR CAR WOULD HAVE COME OUT WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM.

IT WAS YOUR IDEA FOR ME TO TAKE IT TO A GARAGE, BUT NEVER AGAIN !!! THEY CAUSE PROBLEMS SO I SHALL DO ALL THE WORK ON IT MYSELF FROM NOW ON WITHIN REASON.

You should of taken it to a Vauxhall dealer................................. and once they had stopped laughing, they would of told you to scrap it.

Its a death trap!!!!

The Vauxhall was the "handbrake car"
This is a FIAT, well renowned for making quality cars...
