One other thing, BA don't employ new pilots, if you qualify, you would need to go to either a regional or overseas airline and get something like 1800 hrs logged before BA and the likes would consider you. Your first year as a pilot would also be very low pay, really, my friends first year was sub £20k (about 7 years ago). He also narrowly avoided redundancy within the last few weeks due to a large amount of redundancies throughout the sector.

Two weeks ago Lufthansa shut its Bremen Flight Training school and told the 700 students to look for other work: it did this on the basis that it saw no need for new pilots for a significant number of years ahead. The students will have to repay up to € 80 000 training-costs ( seems low ).The school opened in 1956, so this was not a knee-jerk decision.

Opting to start training as an airline pilot now - assuming a bank would lend the cash which seems very doubtful- would be about as sensible as putting your arm into a wood-chipper.

I read is as saying the pupils should look for a differnt career path and they are free to leave the training school without any financial obligations

For simplicity I left out the bit about other schools possibly taking some of them but with no guarantee from Lufthansa that it would lead to a job and therefore no guarantee that a potential employer would pick up the subsequent costs, and in that case the cadet would be in debt to Lufthansa for the specified amounts. The aim was to get across that there has never been a worse time to attempt to do become a pilot. BA has made several hundred pilots redundant and negotiated a complicated scheme with remaining 2 500+ pilots that they take a greater pay-cut to allow about 700 pilots not to be made redundant but be retained in a " holding-pool" for an unspecified time until work returns.

Recruiting newbies could not be further from their mind.
