I went to a year old shower tray that has cracked around the waste. The manufacturers came out and said because silicone had been used between the top on the tray and the top of the waist the tray isn't covered by manufacturers warranty. And the silicone had caused it to crack. Any one heard any thing like this before? Seems madness.

Sounds like a cop out to me. Would have requested a technical explanation as to how silicone could weaken the tray .How does the molecular structure of silicone alter the molecular structure of the tray and compromise it's structural strength ,would be my opening question.
My second question would be what scientific qualifications does the examiner possess !!!

And why does it only weaken it at the waste hole, but not at the edges where it meets the tiles...

Guess the question is why is it cracking around the waste. Not a common issue so soon into the installation. Is there some kind of stress being placed on that area as it is usually the thinnest past of the tray moulding.

Can you post a pic of it from above and from underneath if that's possible.

That's from above.

Is it placcie or resin? The silicon on the waste line is rubbish, if the tray was bedded on silicon thats another matter.
Looks like weight on the waste has caused the cracking, tricky bit to support cos of the trap. Unless there's a massive cutout for the trap?

As its a shower pod ,I expect it sits on legs ,does it XanderHarris ??
Silicone causing stress fractures is without merit ,in my opinion.

It's comes on a polyester base. By without merit do you mean a cop out? I thought it sounded madness. I need to take out and look at the underside of it.

Yes ,nonsense. Give more info on the construction and what elevates the pod to allow trap clearance beneath.
