Hi guys,

I hope someone can help me. I had my garage converted, it has been boarded and plastered. I have quite a few concerns.

1. The builder had to board over a fuse box supply. He has cut out around the fuse box for me to make some framing, but where he has boarded over the boxing for the wires it actually sits prouder than the plasterboard forming an arc, see pics attached. Ideally he should have created a channel in the foam backed plasterboard where it sit proud but he obviously didn’t. What can I do to resolve this.

2. the reveal by the window ceiling is totally off level, you can see from the pics attached. Could I level this out with some easi fill or is this totally the wrong way to go about it.

I’m just so disappointed with his workmanship I don’t want him back and I’d like to resolve this myself.

shoddy!
fill the corner out to pull it back a bit.
fill the bad bits and sand them back.
you’ll need a lot of filler on the reveal, id score it and remove the plaster on the edge of the bead so you can seal it and skim back to it.

You might like to post photos (from further back?) on the Electrics forum and see what they think.

The insulation seems to be (thin) polystyrene; that reacts with PVC electrical cables! Was an electrician involved with this work?

you can’t buy them with polystyrene that thin . most of it has been removed by the look of it.

A qualified electrician fitted all sockets and lighting. The part p went to building regs and it’s been passed off. I’m guessing the health and safety was passed of but do building regs really check workmanship? I noticed today the one wall isn’t even square. There is 5cm difference and it’s only a 2 metre wide room. When I put flooring down that will stick out like a saw thumb. Just don’t know what to do now.

Has he seen the fuse box with the plasterboard around it?

Don’t assume they check anything.

Electrician has seen the plasterboard around the fuse box as he had to fit 2 new breakers in the unit.

on the corner and bad bits.
to be honest i’d get him back to reskim the reveal.
To be honest. Looking at this jokers work I don’t want him back. I’d rather try and tackle it myself. I could have done a better job myself. He gives a bad name to decent builders.
