Hi,

I've received a quote for the following work that needs doing:
  • Stain Block Kitchen Ceiling and apply two coats white emulsion.
  • Stain Block Inside ex-chimney area and apply two coats white emulsion (approx. 0.4 m2).
  • Paint Stair Bannister (Approx. 144 inches in length) and Handrail-white 1x u/c & 1x gloss (Approx. 83 * 42 Inches).
  • Knock off plaster to rear kitchen area and re plaster with damp prof render and skim (Approx. 4.2 m2).
  • Prepare and prime 1x u/c external front door and 1 x gloss Paint.
The quote comes in at £1525.00 + VAT, so £1830.00 inc. VAT.
I'm based in the West Midlands area.

None of the line items have been broken down in terms of cost, but my expectation was between £800 - £1000 as the job will take approx. 2 or 3 days.

Many thanks for your help and guidance.

Kind Regards Jon

i would get 3 quotes, but make sure the people are recommended , We have had 3 bedrooms walls & ceilings plastered and a Kitchen Ceiling replastered. The guys that did the Kitchen were really good, but that was part of a whole new kitchen and they would not travel down to us for further work. 2 bedrooms, the recommended plasterer was not that great a LOT of mess and expensive £600 per room. The last guys we had were really good and just starting and the price was very good, and quality very good, however , they had only just started up a family business, middle of the financial year, 1st year so were under the VAT threshold and so 20% saving immediately for that Year.

Thanks Eta, I have a couple of recommendations from friends and also getting some quotes from other tradesmen , if any forum members have any recommendations for people in the Sutton Coldfield/Lichfield area then that would be most helpful.

I do love it when a customer tells you how long a job will take and how much it should cost.

Have you considered drying time between coats and materials?

If that's their quote then that's what they think it'll cost based on time, materials, tooling and earning enough to cover tax, fuel and other overheads

Absolutely, but to me that seems excessive, based on previous work I've had done in another (more expensive) part of the country which was almost identical to the work, I'll see once the other quotes come in, but in my opinion its on the high side.
