I had some work done recently on a 3-port valve, and whilst i had the engineers here i had my boiler serviced, which hadn't been serviced for quite some time.

The current issue i'm having (well two) is, when the hot water fires up, i normally get like a surge noise, like lots of water dropping, and the boiler would fire up and the noise would go away, just recently when hot water is on, i get what sounds like a trickling of water, and sometimes a small surge, its like water is dropping into boiler. When its been on quite some time, i get like a lot of rushing noises in stages.

The pump is working fine, i can hear it work. I get a noise from one of my pipes, when the hot water has been on for a while, i get like a rushing sound. I traced the noise to a pipe coming out of the top of the F&E Tank in the loft, pic supplied. Doesnt sound like anything flowing in it, its just it seem to amplifying the sound. There is nothing coming out of it either.

The tank has water in, and has enough to be over the outlet pipe.

Ive let any trapped air out of the Air vent on the top of my piping, and also bled the radiator at highest point.

My heating/hot water system is a gravity fed system Ideal LXRS or RS combi boiler.

When the plumbers replaced my 3-port valve and serviced the boiler they left the boiler on no 6 (0-6) and my pump they put on no 3. I also have just 6 radiators.

Cheers

Rob

Is this definitely the feed and expansion tank for heating or is it the cold water storage tank for hot water cylinder?

Yes im pretty sure its F&E tank, its a smallish tank, the one supplying the cylinder is a lot bigger, also this tank is full of dirty water, with some sludgy bits, i wouldn't want to bathe in it :)
