Scrapping my car tomorrow - do I need to still send V5?

Submitting photos of my V5 form online, and taking car to local scrap dealer tomorrow.
They say all distance scrapping, they already have bank details for payment and will pay same day. They also say in email to take V5 if I have it ... so probably all online now and not essential, as I assume they will prefer to keep a distance and just wave or something ...

although I still need to hand over the keys...

It's a while since I scrapped a car, and I've never tried "socially-distanced scrapping", but when last I did it, the breaker had to issue you with a "Certificate of Destruction" for your car. Maybe he now informs DVLA of that electronically? Without that, you're still liable for things like speeding tickets, road tax and so on.

Should get money tomorrow, and COD by email later today. Was a gov approved scrapper, and the guy at the counter seemed a good, honest chap.

In the interests of being nosey, what car are you scrapping and why?

2005 Chev Lacetti. Needed about £1000 of work done to get it all nice and new (and pass MOT). I was in 2 minds, then found a nice Ford Focus Estate, so bought that today.
Got £220 in the bank today, a few hours after dropping it off.
Have submitted online that no longer owner, email confirmation received.

2005 Chev Lacetti.

Oh I see. It's probably for the best.

Of the Daewoos/Chevrolets (still can't get my head around a Daewoo being re-named with the illusturous name of Chevrolet) that I've drive, I found they weren't too bad. For a smallish car, the Kalos is actually very comfortable for someone of my 6' 4" dimensions. Felt like a bigger car in the driving seat. Also driven the big one, the Leganza. Not too bad a drive and lots of toys and metal for the asking price.

Yeah, I was happy with it. Paid about £4500 for it in 2009, used if for camping holidays and treated badly with DIY supplies, it's even been reversed into a skip, and we always said we'd keep it going til the end - I was expecting the end to be a few more years down the line, but hey ho.

12 years solid service. Hardly had to spend anything on it til now - cambelt, tyres, lots of bulbs, think that was it in 12 years.

I have a 23 year old Passat and it needs about £1000 in maintenance.
The car is not worth £500.
The Boss says she must retain ownership of it and I am responsible for keeping it in good shape or else...
Got to say though, it's served me first and then the Boss for 15 years and apart from a rear wheel bearing and a new battery, we didn't have any problem.
I service it every 6 months as it's used for short trips.
So, happy to keep it.

Yes, it still seems odd or wrong to be scrapping a car that doesn't appear to be eaten with tin worm.

Re. the Passat, it's not always what the car is worth to someone else, it's what it's worth to you. Also the money you would have to find to get something newer. If my vehicles are structurally sound and running well, but with a fault or two, I would rather fix my vehicle that I know onside out rather than gamble on an unknown newer vehicle. I realise others have differing opinions though.
