32mm waste with overflow

Hello,

The wife has bought a RAK Chameleon basin for a cloakroom. The overflow leads to a plastic piece which connects with the waste from under the sink. The issue I have is that the slotted part of the waste sits within the ceramic part of the basin, this means that the overflow water leads to nowhere. RAK are beyond useless and don’t have an answer. It’s all RAK supplied stuff I’m using.

I’m now wondering how to get this to work? I can’t seem to find a 32mm waste kit that takes an overflow. I wondered whether to use a 40mm kitchen waste kit and connect the overflow to a spigot, but I’d be going from 32mm to 40mm back to 32mm and I’m not sure whether that is a good idea.

I’m hoping someone might be able to advise on the best solution?

The length of waste youve bought looks to be for a sink that has an integral overflow gallery or for a thin sink.Does your sink have a hole through the back of the basin

Yes it is, we were told this is what we needed. It doesn’t help that RAKs own website show this basin as having no overflow whatsoever. I appreciate I need to get an unslotted waste but my problem still exists as to how the overflow connects to a waste.

You answered while i was editing, does your basin have an overflow hole inside towads the top and you can see a gallery if you look inside the bottom hole

There’s definitely no internal overflow, pics attached.

Looks like they may do a version with and without overflow.
You need a waste with a greater distance between the flange and slots so they will fit within your overflow kit.

Just had a look an a larger screen and can't see why what you have won't do the job

The slot sits within the ceramic part of the basin, water can't enter via the top of the waste due to a rubber seal, nor from the underneath due to a rubber seal. Perhaps I'm not understanding your diagram?

So in essence you need a waste flange that has the slot further down? The extra piece of clay on the bottom of the basin waste is what's covering the slot you have at the moment?

You may find that it is bespoke, it's not the normal type of basin fitting. Most basins have the overflow internal to the casting and the slot in the waste hole as I'm sure you know. I have yet to see a basin that doesn't have an integrated overflow.

I don't think you will be able to get a new basin waste to meet your needs, never seen one that would suit with a longer throat before the slot like that. You may need to persevere with RAK on this one.

Just a thought, if you can't find one to suit then it'll be down to modifying the one you have. You could use an angle grinder and quite easily cut a new slot into the waste.

Just had another look at the specs, as far as the cup for the overflow is concerned.

If you look at the picture of the waste below, the over flow cup is wider at the top than the bottom, therefore the cup should fit over that extra piece of the waste hole and fit tight to the flat bottom part of the basin and seal there. So it's doesn't matter in the slot doesn't extend down as any overflow water will run into the cup and then upwards to the slot. Just need to make sure it seals properly at the nut end of the overflow
