Solution to ants getting under gaps in skirting

What's the solution (apart from scribing)

I would use a bead of silicone, however the ant will chew right through it

Thanks for this, I have seen a few people suggest this product, so will be buying some.

I'm currently using a mix of boric acid and honey. It has always eradicated the ants. But always good to have an alternative

Are there any construction products i could use to close the gaps between the skirting and floor?

I would try silicone after treating the gap with powder.

Or powder £1 a tub in the pound shops. We have the same problem here at the moment. We have seen the odd one or two in the kitchen, at the back of the house and hundreds in the garden over the past week. I put down some powder at strategic points around the garden, then at kick board joints in the kitchen last week. This morning she moved an easy chair in the kitchen and saw lots of them, so I sprinkled some where the chair is normally located - I counted a dozen. within ten minutes they were gone. They carry the 'food' / the Nippon back to the nest, which kills the lot. You just have to keep applying it every time you see them, you only need a tiny amount in strategic areas where you often see them. No need to sprinkle it everywhere.They will find and take it back to the nest.

The kitchen of the school where she works she says, is inundated with them.

We put a Nippon Bait Trap behind the kickboards in the kitchen as soon as we see a couple of scouts. Seems to work because we never see any more after they have been baited.
