Cecil Rhodes staying after all

We shouldn't be talking about one histrical slave trade without discussing the other, and lets remember virtually all the slaves rounded up for export to the americas was done by black african tribes.

But we shouldn't even be discussing slavery from 200 years ago (which the UK had abolished) We should be talking about what is happening now

India (8 million),
China (3.86 million)
Pakistan (3.19 million)
North Korea (2.64 million)
Nigeria (1.39 million)
Indonesia (1.22 million)
DR Congo (1 million)
Russia (794,000)
Philippines (784,000).

And then there is current day Africa

but hey, lets worry about a statue in Oxford, because anything else would be racist.

....once it was no longer profitable.

But not before.

thats a bit cynical, though the real reason was because the UK realised how terrible it was to do it, the folk of the UK were up in arms about it, and it also cost the UK government quite a large sum of money.

(and conveniently ignoring the fact the Great Britain led the world in abolishing slavery)
And conveniently distorting history.
But the antipathy of many Americans toward slavery became evident as early as 1775, when Quakers in Pennsylvania set up the first abolitionist society. (William Wilberforce would have been 16 years old at that time)
Five years later, (when William Wilberforce would have been just 21 years old) Massachusetts became the first state to abolish slavery in its constitution. Seven years after that (1787) the U.S. Congress passed the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, outlawing slavery in the Northwest Territories.
In 1803, Denmark-Norway became the first country in Europe to ban the African slave trade. In 1807, “three weeks before Britain abolished the Atlantic slave trade
In 1834, (31 years after Norway and Denmark and 54 years after Massachusetts) the Abolition Act abolished slavery throughout the British Empire, including British colonies in North America.

Your narrative is the typical "we did it first" mentality, which distorts history to your appreciation.

because it's not convenient for the blacks of today, as they cannot hide behind that.

They need to feel victimised to promote themselves and keep themselves at the forefront of peoples mind, just as we got to a point where very few really gave a monkey's about skin colour.

what happened 200 years ago has not affected people born in the last 50-100 years, the black youth of today have not suffered because of slavery, and without slavery would they even be here today?

whats done is done, move on change tomorrow, you cant change yesterday.

You've conveniently omitted UK, as is usual in these kind of discussions:
The number of people identified as victims of modern slavery has been rising year on year, with over 10,000 people referred to authorities in 2019.

That's just the number identified in one year.

And we want to sign a FTA with the country on the top of the list and didn't put them on the Red list soon enough as Bojo was wanting to go for a visit.

Very apt.

You recognise the cruelty and inhumanity of slavery, but you want to ignore that suffered by the worst of the slave trade in human history?

Holocaust. You can't just forget history. “Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it.”

I understand your point, today, right now the slavery of the past has little or nothing to do with someone say applying for a job or going out for a meal.

Progress has been made, you can argue whether enough has been made or not, but there cannot be an argument that none has been made.

The issue is more nuanced but people don't do nuance.
