Good afternoon all. I am having a kitchen extension in my bungalow and am concerned that the GRP gullies have not been fitted properly by the roofer. They have sanded strips up both sides but have been told by the builder that they don’t mortar them in anymore. Further, there are no gully boards to support the gullies and no strips of felt running under the gullies. Also, the existing and new felt has not been overlapped under the gullies. It just goes about 2 inches over the edge of the gully and I can see daylight coming in as per the photos. I think it will leak?
Lastly, should the top of the gullies be treated with lead?
Thanks in anticipation of your help. Mark C Johnson

Not really, it's all area dependent too.

It doesn't happen in Scotland anymore yet we still use grp valleys

There are two types of fibreglass valleys - wet, which is sealed with mortar, and dry which is not.

Your roofer is correct in a sort of clueless cowboy way.

Hi Woody, would I be correct in saying this is a wet gully as it has sanded strips along the edges? Also should there be valley boards and or ,at least a strip of felt beneath the grp valley? Thanks, Mark

Yes you are correct. Fibreglass trays need to be supported, unless the manufacturer states otherwise - and I don't think that there are any that do not need support.
