Mira advanced ATL replacement electric shower

Hi,

We have a Mira advanced shower which we no longer want as it has stopped working, plus it isn't very powerful, but with the water pipe coming up from the bottom on the right, I am unclear what replacement options we have.

Also as you can see we dont have a huge amount of room on the right side to play with as the the water is quite close to the shower door.


I can't afford a direct replacement as a new Mira costs over £300, so looking for something cheaper.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Quite a lot of showers have what’s sometimes referred or as retrofit, or multipoint entry as in they’ll replace most shower make/models. What you might need to do is back the screws off to see how much it’s covering any gaps in the tiles.

Thanks, I did that yesterday and there is only a small hole where the cable and the water pipe come through, the rest is all good.

It was only recently done and I asked the electrician to do the wiring to handle a 10kw shower. So I hope that is the case, but will get a professional to install.

I wish we had not put the old shower back, especially as its quite long compared to other so the screw hole will show with a replacement.

This is probably a daft question, but I do I get a plumber or electrician to install it.

Same applies to any electric shower.
If you are expecting a big difference with a 10kw shower, you will be disappointed.

To be frank, Mira are the better end of the market, going for something cheaper may result in you getting a worse showering experience than you're getting now. Before condemning the current unit, I'd get it looked at, and make sure it's achieving it's optimum performance.

Thank you. I'm going to try this now as you suggest. That was my plan but it was £180.00 fix fee from Mira and if it was beyond repair it would be £80.00 then over £400 to replace.

The shower switches on but no water and just beeps with all the lights flashing. I have tried all the suggested reset methods, taken the hose off etc etc and no enjoy.

But I did find a post on here last night from 2013 where someone said this happens if work has happened on the cold water supply, due to air?? And to loosen the cold water input slightly.

So I am going to try that today as it recently installed after a refurb. It was working fine for a few days and then just went off whilst my child was showering.

I also saw something about priming the shower by pressing a blue button inside the unit.

Thank you again, if you had not posted I would not have tried again. It works!!!

I shut down the water and electricity, then loosened a plastic black bolt which looked like a filter on the unit that is connected to the water supply. Water dripped out. Turned it all back on and hey presto it was all working. Actually the pressure is better than before, not sure why that would be.

So thank you. Saved me alot of money. Plus my daughter gets to see mum does more than ironing and making food.

Quite possibly was the filter, I did wonder if this was choked up, but unfortunately I am not familiar enough with that particular model to advise any further. Given it had recently been replaced, then highly likely there could be detritus left in the supply pipework from installation if it hadn't been flushed through.

It was only recently done

This rang alarm bells, why would you be wanting to get rid of a £300 shower you've not long had fitted, for possibly something worse. Assuming it's less than 12 months old, Mira should still have it under guarantee, but then if it hasn't been installed correctly, I would expect a warranty call to be chargeable.

Debris in the supply and a blocked filter was probably one of the most likely causes and possibly the easiest to sort!

Yep, my mistake for assuming it was just the tiles recently done, with op stating the second bit about the old shower.

If you know the shower Chris, is there anything else the OP needs to do would you think? Sounds like its sorted, but going forward....

Not really, just the usual suspects, filter being one of them. That black plastic nut is the filter and housing, you have to be careful not to over tighten it, or chew the head. After that it’s going to be the pcb on the front casing (replaced a few of those before, usually just fitted a new front, but we could having loads in stock), or any other electronic failure. Zooming in on the photo, if it’s the correct sticker, it appears to be manufactured in week 20 of 2016, so 5 years old. Iirc it’s only 2 years with that shower. I haven’t worked on them for approx 4/5 years.

If you are intent on changing it and seeing as you asked for the cabling to accommodate a 10kw shower (but do have it verified that it is actually 10mm2 cable), I haven't found any better than this: https://www.screwfix.com/p/mira-sport-max-with-airboost-white-10-8kw-manual-electric-shower/87467

I fitted one in my second bathroom and was genuinely impressed by it. It's never going to come up to the standard of a proper mixer shower, but I believe it's the best performance available in an electric shower currently.

Thanks, I should have started with the fix but I had seen other people had asked on other posts and other forums and I tried all the solutions. I even went through various solutions with Mira customer support, so I had given up.

It was actually my mum's shower due to her disability, it was only when the post mentioned how good they are that I gave it another shot and found a post on here from 2013 suggesting the solution that fixed it.
