I am closing an external door up which is within a solid brickwork wall.

Is it best to use bricks in this instance or blocks? I have blocks already on site but if bricks are better i will get some.

I’d normally use blocks if I don’t need to match in with the facing brickwork. Mesh over the join if you’re rendering (or solid plastering) it tho, to avoid hairline shrinkage cracks

Thanks its a solid brick wall at the moment so i guess laying blocks on side is the way to go. I plan to insulate internally afterwards so see no benefit in 2 skins next to each other. Is that correct?

Nothing wrong with 2 skins, tie them together with cavity ties, if the ties are too long use them on an angle. But yeah I’ve done it using blocks laid flat before when the wall’s the right thickness
