Were you also filming the rear-view, or did the police rely on your commentary for that ?

I'm very happy about your action. Any way of getting thugs/maniacs off the road is a good way.

P.S. Not the same, but perhaps amusing. A good few years ago I was driving down the M4 and a car in front of me tossed a lot of rubbish out of the window: it was a sign-written car and i noted down the details.

At the next service-station I called the company and spoke to the sales-director: it turned out the driver was a rep coming in for his annual appraisal .

The company was - according to the sign-writing - " a specialist in building and site-cleaning and site-management" :)

It records front as HD and rear at a lower resolution, but I was towing the caravan home so rear cam could only see the big white thing behind me. They relied on my commentary, as I watched his antics in my mirror.

I once wasted an entire hour, just watching the recording of my rear view of the caravan, it was absolutely fascinating watching how it behaved.

When I first passed my test, I was rather obsessive about picking up any errors, even the slightest ones I made when driving, in my attempts to be just as safe I could make my driving - enjoying driving helped a lot. I would have certainly welcomed a car cam back then. Even now, when I get the urge, I pull the video from the cam and review my standard of driving. I used to sup with one of the top local police drivers and he would teach me taught me the police methods. I could never manage the Hendon shuffle though on the bike :-)

Its a real shame they don't teach the Police bike training like they used to in the 90s. There is a lot less focus on slow speed control, no doubt a lot more expensive repairs and broken ankles too.

Police will not charge anyone based on a dashcam footage only.
They rely on the culprit showing up when invited to the police station and admit to the offence when interviewed.
