Of course there's a shortage of drivers and it's bugger all to do with Brexit.

Its two fold. With the new tax rules about 25k EU Drivers have left and on top because of the new border checks about 25% of the trucks leaving the UK are leaving empty to avoid costly delays.

Brexit adds fuel to the fire. Cooking on gas baby.

the HGV driver crisis has been fermenting for over a decade, I would agree the root cause is not brexit, but brexit is entirely the cause of this immediate crisis.

The next thing is brexers will blame EU drivers for low wages in the industry -by the same people that vote for the Tory party, which are the cause of wage stagnation.

UK HGV drivers must share the blame -get rid of unions, thats what you get: minimum wage for a professional job.

I see wage rates for HGVs have been around £11 an hour -thats an insult for unsociable hours and a skilled job.

That’s shocking! That’s 80p an hour less than a Lidl employee gets - no wonder they can’t get lorry drivers, it’s sod all to do with Brexit.

Yes, I’m sure they would. That’s the problem. They’d love getting £11.80 an hour for stacking shelves in a supermarket instead of £11.00 an hour for the stress of driving a lorry. Blame Lidl, not Brexit.

If we remove the tribal brexit arguments, we can see like most things its a bit more involved.

HGV drivers have been leaving the industry for years -due to poor working conditions and wages -not to do with brexit (more to do with Sun reading HGV drivers voting Tory and turning their back on unions)

brexit has drained the supply of EU drivers that hid the problem -that is a direct result of err brexit.

Ok. So you’re happy to have foreign HGV drivers over here earning less than a supermarket shelf Packer as long as you get your goods delivered? Isn’t that called exploitation?

So, all the U.K. based EU lorry drivers have gone home, presumably to drive lorries in their respective EU countries and many U.K. resident lorry drivers have also gone to the EU to work too? Next you’ll be telling me that the shortage of bar staff in the U.K. is because many U.K. resident waiting staff are all waiting on tables in the EU too. Pull the other one! In any case, I thought we couldn’t easily work abroad now what with Brexit and all that red tape? Now, to suit your argument, it seems we can! What’s all the fuss been about then?

lots of haulage companies that operated in the UK were EU businesses -and many UK drivers worked for them, after 2016 plenty moved to the EU.

I a guy through social media that owns a haulage business in Europe -he stopped doing UK routes a few years ago and transferred his business to EU work....and his business has grown and he employs many UK drivers

Possibly, but you'd have to admit you've spent the last two years claiming foreign workers haven't driven down wages is a complete lie and fabrication.
