Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here might have advice for my issues. I’ve had good Google and looked at videos first, but don’t seem to be able to find the answer I’m look for.

recently (around a month ago) my boiler was serviced and the system flushed. I noticed afterwards that the pressure was low, I rang my heating engineer and he said that the system just needed pressurising so just briefly turn one of the valves (I think the right one) until the pressure rises.

everything seemed fine. However, today I checked the pressure and it was in the red (around 2.5). I bled a radiator to lower the pressure (now in the mid green - around 1.5), after an hour the pressure seems to be rising though. My question, is are either of the valves still open? As I only turned one at the time. Through searching online it seems like you turn both valves to pressurise but I was only told to turn one.

I’ve attached a photo of the current settings, does this look correct?

thank you
Ian

The cold fill side looks open, and could be passing, either that or pin-holed plate heat exchanger. Is your heating on?

I take it the cold side is the left? I’ve seen a YouTube video earlier that suggests that should be pointing down (as in to the camera). Yes the heating is on. Thank you.

Ahh, so this may change the outcome. Does the pressure rise when heating not in use? Yes cold is left.

I’ll check tomorrow regarding your question (around pressure rising when not in use). I checked an hour or so ago and the pressure is still at what it was, after I bled a radiator. I think the rise has been gradual over the last month, as I definitely checked a few days after I’d repressurised the system and the pressure then was fine. It does sound though, that the cold side is open and I need to shut it?

You're best closing it in case it’s passing. If no pressure rise when not in use, could be a flat/failed expansion vessel - which if it was “serviced” and not a poke and hope, then this should have been checked/re-pressurised accordingly.

Thank you very much, I’ll do that and see what occurs. Thanks for the help, much appreciated. Ian
