this is brand new window only installed last year to our extension. it was shut since it was fitted and we I opened it this week I found the it catches from the top right corner. I have noticed that when it fully open, see picture "open position" the gape on the top left corner is bigger than the bottom one. And when I try to close it is catching at the top right corner and it need a good pull to close. see see picture "close position". I have been trying to call the guy who install it without success. what causes this distortion on the window and how it can be put right.

If you slack of the screws, then you will be able to slide the hinge fixings to adjust them with a bit of trial and error. Screws are usually righty tighty, lefty loosy.

there are 3 screws, the back and the middle have tight fit circle and only the last one have a slot therefore the hinge can not be slide in any direction,

thanks, this means that I might need to screw the the last and the middle one in a different holes from the original ones. if so, the two holes will be overlap each other resulted in the screws will not fit tight, or Am I missing something?.

Woah, woah , before adjusting the hinge screws , check whether the glass is Toe and Heeled properly , which will require the glass being removed and checking the packers ...loads of guides on the likes of you tube. Hinges will be out in position by jigs , its very unlikely to be the hinges out of alignment ( not unheard of though )

From the photos, it looked to me like the hinge side gap, between main frame and window frame was out - that would not be addressed by toe and heeling.

check the glass and it is toe and heeled properly, I took it off and repeated the process again after watching few clips on youtube but still the same, no difference.

As I said, from your photos - it looks like the hinges are not set properly, wider gap at the top than the bottom.

correct, ...if I can slid the bottom hinge right few millimeters and the top left few millimeters would be good and make the sash square but I am unable to do so.

So, you need to adjust the hinge location to where they need to be.

all i need to turn the sash anti clockwise a degree or so

  • sorted,... the issue was hinge issue and not Toe and Heeled. to find out whether the problem related to Toe and Heeled or hinges is when you take the glass out. if the opening sash behaves in the same way then it is hinge issue and not Toe and Heeled. And there is an improvement or the opening sash behaves differently then the issue probably Toe and Heeled. However what I did as follows:-
  • I took the glass off
  • took the opening sash off by undoing the 3 screws at the bottom and the 3 ones at the top. those are the visible screws that fix the bottom and the top hinges to the fixed frame
  • once the sash (with the hinges still screwed on it) is out I could see what Harry mentioned. there is clearance on the slot of the hinges that screwed on the sash. you can only see those screws when you take the sash out.
  • undid the top ones (3 in total) moved them 2 mm to the right and that did the job.

many thanks to whoever contributed to this thread.
