They threatened Corbyn would take us back to the 70s.. But the Tories did

As backward a modern westernised country you can get.
There are pockets of civilization - East coast, DC, California. There are also large swathes of ISIS inspired bigoted, racist backward xeophobic - pick-up driving nutters that will imprison a rape victim for aborting the foetus and force children to marry a much older man so he can avoid rape charges. Dumb RWR.

I suspect that well over half the staff were not even taught Imperial at school
On a hot day over ten years ago, I had six students in the centre so I sent a student round the shop to get 'half a dozen' cans of coke. He came back with none. When I asked why, he said he didn’t know how many half a dozen was. I said he should have asked someone in the shop. He said he did but they didn’t know either!

I dare say they are smart enough to be conversant in both systems, Imperial and metric.

apparently not

Indeed, NASA lost an unmanned mission owing to a mix-up between metric and imperial units. In September 1999, its $125 million Mars Climate Orbiter probe was destroyed because its attitude-control system used imperial units but its navigation software used metric units

Or maybe the 'teacher' was to blame for being set in old fashioned ways and not explaining properly?

It'll be interesting to see how many businesses a) ignore this completely b) start to put dual stickers on everything or c) go full imperial.

I tend to think what's the point, other than trying to appeal to a certain type of voter. Given those aged up to 40's have mainly used metric, I can only repeat, what's the point?

Up to 60's I would say, I'm mid 60's and and have almost always used metric, referring to the odd item in old money, 27" doors and 8 x 4 sheets etc, oh and miles, they never really went away.

What, sending a kid round the shop to get some cold drinks is 'teaching' in your world? It was just a turn of phrase I used over 10 years ago you nit-picking idiot. Hey, Ms Metric, what would you say when some pricks try to explain things in imperial measurements?
